萬獸之王的兇猛形象深植人心，但偏有人不信邪竟將成年雄獅當寵物養。美國知名美女模特兒兼演員的蒂皮赫德倫拍完電影《Roar》後，於洛杉磯創立一個巴拉野生動物保護區（Shambala Preserve），並將巨大雄獅當小貓飼養，看過的親友們全替她捏把冷汗。
赫德倫在洛杉磯以北40公里處創立野生動物保護區，區內收容許多全球遭活捉、虐待或是需要幫助的大型貓科動物。赫德倫為能就近且細心照料動物們，決定認養一隻成年雄獅，並且將牠當寵物養在家中。
